The Lakes Anglican Church is a provisional parish in the Brisbane Diocese of the Anglican Church of Australia. The Parish incorporates the areas of Griffin, Mango Hill and North Lakes.
The church began out of a vision for an Anglican Church to be established in this region by our praishioners Betty Shortell, Kevin and Margaret Daniels. They prayed and believed God was calling them to write to the Archbishop and request that a parish be supported within North Lakes. The Archbishop was in agreement and the journey towards establishing a new congregation began.
On 9th July 2006 the Anglican Parish of Redcliffe sponsored the new district of North Lakes. Services were led by Reverend Graheme Baldock with a traditional Prayer Book service and were held in The Lakes District College. Fr Tom Bower (a curate at the time with the Redcliffe Parish) was able to run various ministries and helped as a chaplain at School which at the time was jointly owned by the Anglican and Uniting church. Later the Anglican and Uniting Churches parted ways and The Lakes District School is now independently owned by the Uniting Church
In December 2009, Bishop Raymond Smith became the Pioneer Priest of the District, working on a three day week. He also ran a traditional Prayer Book service however he began a number of ministries that continue within the parish today. Unfortunately Bishop Raymond passed away in 2012 after completing time at a local church while they were without a minister. His service and ministry has left a wonderful legacy behind of which some of the church projects we are currently working on are in remembrance of.
We now worship in the Performing Arts Complex of the North Lakes State College, Joyner Circuit, North Lakes and our vision is to establish a Community Ministry Centre which will include space for worship as well as providing a range of ministries to meet the needs of the Griffin, Mango Hill and North Lakes communities.
On 20th January 2012, Father Daniel Berris was commissioned as Priest at Charge with his first service then conducted on 22nd January 2012.
Father Dan has had a wide engagement with various churches. In addition to the Anglican Church of Australia, he has been a part of the Salvation Army, Baptist, Wesleyan Methodist, Episcopal Church of USA, non-denominational churches and met his wife in YWAM (Youth With A Mission) after completing his DTS (Discipleship Training School). He is married to Kerry and has two sons who attend local state schools in North Lakes.
Dan enjoys movies, reading, music (listening to music and also playing drums/guitar), exercising and getting out for a ride on his Triumph motorbike. He is excited to be working with the community of The Lakes Anglican Church to help inspire the gifts, talents and abilities as we all grow towards a deeper relationship with God as we Love Jesus, Serve Others and Glorify God together.
